Good evening everyone, this is Dennis.
I have been doing research and assembling resources on broadcasting video to the internet at large. It is slow going, and I am trying to contain costs. Here is what I have found so far:
- Facebook video is an easy option for recording talking head videos. All I need is my phone and some decent lighting (and maybe a connection for a USB Mic). The drawback is that it is on Facebook alone, and doesn’t lend itself to posting to Youtube and a Video Network site. I will use this option for quick updates in the coming weeks.
- I can record talking head videos to Open Broadcaster Studio with my phone and a USB mic, although using the phone for this purpose suffers from some awkward workarounds. These would be better with a dedicated webcam, and a good one can be purchased for under $70. This option also allows remote connection to guests or collaborators via skype and other video and audio sources. I currently plan do some interview style shows discussing music with some of the amazing musicians I know.
- My iPhone can create amazing video for HowTo videos, music and art videos, and narrative content. However the footage is best with add-on lenses, camera support systems such as tripods, external microphones and lighting equipment (the on phone LED light is not nearly adequate for high quality video). Once I have the opportunity to get basic equipment to meet these needs, I will be able to capture footage that can be edited and either posted straight to a video channel or invoked as “clips” in the live interview style shows.
There are too many ideas for video shows in my head to distill them all here, and I am looking forward to sharing much more once I have these projects further along in development.
